Making a change
Making a change
Good evening!
I have been reading threads for a couple of weeks but decided to introduce myself. I had my last glass of wine on Dec 30. I started drinking wine within a year of my son's birth (he is now 8) It started out as a glass to unwind on the weekends. Kind of a reward for my frazzled hectic life as a single parent.
I went through a very dark period two years ago and my drinking progressed to where I was drinking a bottle a night. This past year I have been coming out of the funk and getting my life back on track. The one thing I hadn't conquered was the drinking. I didn't want it anymore but it had become a crutch.
I decided to finally face this and go into this year completely fresh. I immediately noticed improvement in my sleep pattern and I am back to a normal schedule of eight hours. I have also noticed improvement in my skin, my focus, and my mood. The one downside is a sweet tooth when I really need to lose the alcohol weight I put on. :P
Still I am wary that I will want to test myself at some point. I really want a healthy life and to take care of myself. and alcohol does not fit into that equation. My body needs to heal and my vanity wants my beauty and vitality back where it was. I expect there will come a point where I will be faced with temptation so I need the tools and resources to push through it.

As a single parent myself (formerly) I understand the challenges. I started drinking back when my youngest was 16. I'd have a glass of wine to calm me down so I wouldn't 'engage' her when she came home in a bad mood. I was hooked so fast it scared me, but still I drank.
When I'd finally had enough I quit for good, over four years ago, and haven't regretted a minute of it.
There's a lot of support here. I hope we can help you stay sober for good.

Welcome Blueu, I love the butterfly picture! I had the same sugar cravings. When you drink you get all the sugar you need from the alcohol, then without the alcohol the body craves sugar again. I drank some cokes to help curb that. Thanks for sharing your story!
