support system
support system
Unlike many others, including my sister who does not live nearby, I am incredibly lucky to have a strong, caring, unconditional support system.
My husband and I have been married for 17 years. Through my progressive alcoholism in the past few years, the births and illnesses/surgeries/hospitalizations of 2 of our 3 daughters, financial hardships, other illnesses and traumas unrelated to my alcoholism ... and so much more ... he has stood by me. We have stood by each other. Even when I wondered why he would.
He loves me; he likes me. We make each other laugh and we cry together. When I remind him that he married a "lemon" he replies, "you know what we do with lemons? make lemonade".
His and my daughters' presence reminds me everyday that my life is a success.
