First day down and lifetime to go
First day down and lifetime to go
I joined SR yesterday as I finally made the decision to get sober and wanted a support group of like minded people to help me.
Last night after work, I went home, poured out, dumped out and got rid of all things related to booze. Spent quality time with the family and got a good night sleep (the sweats are coming, I know.)
It felt great not feeling like death warmed over this morning. I have 25 hours of sobriety and looking forward to another day. I would be lying if I didn't admit that the little voice or as some call it "slick" is already working its magic in my thoughts. But, I must prevail. I have to.
Most of all thanks to SR for yesterday and all of the support that was offered on this site to me. It is greatly appreciated. I hope I can be the one to offer the support. As of right now I'm just trying to climb out of the hole. Good thing is... I'm trying to destroy the shovel that I have been using as a ladder.

Congratulations on your first day sober. They obviously come one at a time if we let them by NOT picking up the first drink. Simple tho not always easy with the best intentions but you can do it as millions of others have.
I looked at it as 2 stages one is to get sober then the other is to stay sober. It can be a great journey and memorable.

I agree with you Zeepa.
It is one day at a time. More like one hour at a time. As of now my chin is up and determination is in the eye. I put a small picture of my family in with my pocket cash. So If I get tempted to pull that money out for beer, there will be the reminder (one of the many reasons I am getting sober) to "walk away". At this point I'm doing anything and everything I can to stay on the straight and narrow. I realize the battle has just begun
