Trying to force me to drink

Yesterday, a associate and I went to a restaurant to discuss some marketing business. We entered the restaurant together and I went to the mens. When I came out I sat down at the table and there was a pint of lager in front of me.

I said to him, "whats that".

He said, "I got you a pint in".

"Listen Geoff, there something I have to tell you. I dont drink anymore, I will get the waiter to change it to something else.".

"Like f--k you will, I am not saying cheers over an orange juice or some sh1t like that, I got you a drink, get it down your neck". He said.

"Whoa Whoa cloth ears, did you not get the memo, when I say I am not drinking, I mean it. My Thyroid is f------d from drinking that sh1t for years, so either you drink it or change it." I said

"Whats your problem its only one pint, its not going to kill you is it ?" He kept on and on.

Calmly, I just said to him, "Next time don't assume to buy me a drink, without asking me first. I accept you couldnt have known my position, but now you do. Now you can either drink it yourself and I will order something else or I will swap it".

"Whats with the attitude ?" He kept on.

"When I say, I don't drink anymore, it is not open to negotiation, the conversation and the meeting are over. You have been told and as far as I am concerned your taking liberties.". I got my coat and walked out. Leaving him to pay for HIS drinks.

He later rang me and said he couldn't do business with me, anymore. I said to him, it would appear that way wouldn't it.

He was a jerk anyway and I never really did get along with him.
Fancy trying to force people to drink, because of a £3.50 beer.

Stank of bleach again too. Since my hypnotherapy thats what all alcohol smells of to me.

You handled that well autan - it's amazing what a hold alcohol, and the social aspect of it, has on people, even people who wouldn't identify themselves as problem drinkers.

The smell was getting to me, but I felt like a child and an adult trying to get me to finish my dinner, I didnt want. Then I thought I am not a child, I can leave at any time.

I have been drinking with him in the past and he is not any kind of fun to be around when he has had a few. Aggressive and very adversarial in his manner.

I just dont need that in my life anymore.

Well done. What an idiot. You are well rid. The hypnotherapy thing sounds interesting. I wish I knew about that back in the day. I would have asked them to make booze smell of poo. Can you imagine walking into a bar? lol xxxx

Yeah, I was thinking he sounded like a jerk and a control freak. He's probably that way about other things, too. You're well rid of him, I think.

You did well. I am sorry you loss the potential for future business.

The funny thing is, he probably has no insight that he doesn't have the right to insist you have a drink, whether you are on meds or not.

So ingrained is drinking in some cultures that it's possible that he thinks, "Who does he think he is, he won't even have a drink with me".

I see you have some experience with this type of person too. Thats exactly what he would have been telling himself.

That makes me angry, I understand he got the beer as he didn't know, but then to push it over and over, this whole "it's only 1 beer" is madness . . . say that to a diabetic over a bar of chocolate or someone quitting smoking!! . . . with an alcoholic, it may very well KILL!!

But no, it's acceptable to make a big issue over people not having a drink in the society we live in!

Great job though on standing your ground and not giving in!!

For me its like walking into a swimming baths. Its very profound smell of bleach and chlorine. No one would drink it, they couldnt.

People like that are just a waste of time, they belong in my past and I am only focused on the future.
