Aa meetings
Hi all,
My name is Spud and it has been 16 Days since my last Drink and Cig.
I have been Sober on / off again for some years now but I've never felt so good within myself as to what I do now.
Over the years I have Been to AA meetings but don't attend anymore due to the fact that people tell exactly the same story it gets a little mundane.
Now when I was living in New Zealand the AA Meetings were very interesting, as people would talk about what they have experienced and how they dealt with various issues thrown at them, not the same repetitive story.

I'm not an AA member so I can't comment on Aussie meetings versus Kiwi ones.
Not sure how many meetings they have in Yeppoon, spud but I daresay you'd get a wider variety of folks in bigger towns like Rockhampton?

Hi,
No only the one meeting on a Sunday Evening so yes very limited, and I know people are merely working at Sobriety please don't think it is a personal attack but to hear how someone is traveling is more interesting than hearing the same thing

I know what you mean by hearing the same story over and over again. As soon as someone raises their hand to share, you know what they are going to say. There's a meeting close to where I live where most of the people are in detox or treatment centers, so I don't hear the same thing. Maybe you could find a place like that where you live. I learn a lot from the people at these meetings. Good luck.
sometimes, when we're annoyed with hearing the "same story over and over" - it can actually be our alcoholic voice talking.... that voice doesn't like the reminders and uses the redundancy to start telling us "we don't need this. this is boring. stop doing this rubbish....."
Then we stray away from the community of AA and we stop hearing the stories....
Then the AV starts in, gradually, on how we were never really all that bad after all and wouldn't just a couple of stubbies be nice.....
It might be useful to go to another AA meeting and ask yourself, honestly, what you might learn or gain from 'The same old stories".
It could save your life....
