relapse after a long time - inspirational pictures or quotes?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the community as you can see.

I had been sober for 8 years until recently had a relapse due to depression. It wasn't as bad as it could have been thanks to my wife (also a recovering alcoholic) who intervened and supported me.

Now, what really gets me is the day-to-day stuff sometimes. When she's around it's great, but in her absence I kind of need little reminders. She writes me notes sometimes, but what I feel I could really need are images or quotes or something. when my brother was in recovery (runs in our family) he pasted these pictures all over his wall, and it seemed to work for him--reminders that he could turn to.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you had any kind of inspirational images, backgrounds or quotes you like to turn to. Something I could print out and paste up around the house, or use as the background or screensaver on my computer and smartphone.

Couldn't find another thread about this but if there is feel free to direct me there!

Hey Portlandhome, welcome to SR ! There is a lot of support for you here !

If you go to the Alcoholism-12 step support forum, you can find daily quotes from the AA Big Book

Welcome Portland so glad to have you
In early sobriety I had to keep reminding myself that I was the captain of my ship. I couldn't sit back and let things happen and take the mindset of what will be will be. This quote by Stephen Hawkings always stuck in my head!

I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.

Was also going to suggest Google. Oh, and Pinterest:

Pinterest

The one I have stuck to the bulletin board right where I'm sitting is "If nothing ever changes, nothing ever changes." A reminder that staying sober means doing something different, making life changes other than just not drinking.

Welcome and good luck!

Welcome Portland,

I just relapsed as well although it was only just over 2 weeks of sobriety...

I found these inspiring this morning:
"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.." Maria Robinson

"The Road to success is not straight. There is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red lights called enemies, caution lights called family. You will have flat tires called jobs, but if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, a driver called will power, you will make it to a place called success"

I found these on a sight called rawforbeauty.com. Lots of inspiration...

You always have the future to look forward to and people who love and support you. You can do this.
