my sober day 1
So, here i am in day one of sobriety.
and the heat just went out at my apartment... its currently a balmy -1 Fahrenheit outside.
triggers, triggers triggers. Stress is a big one for me. I just took a huge dosage of librium so I won't drink, but this is a trigger nonetheless. (stress)

JJQ, welcome to SR, when things come up just take a deep breath and deal with it the best you can.... Sobriety is a lot of hard work but you have us here to help you out Hope your furnace will get fixed soon.
Sometimes when my heat wasn't enough I'd turn on the oven and let it warm the kitchen. I know it's not much, but it's something until they can get the heat back on. Also, just keep at it. You're going to make it through this. Just keep talking in the forums or even hit the chat room. I always find surrounding myself with positive sober people helps.

Hey JJQ! Hope your heat comes back soon. Congrats on taking this big step. I'm on Day One also -- so far, so good, but my "time" is usually in the evenings, so have that to look forward to. I find that taking a few super deep breaths help to calm and centre me so that I don't start flipping out when the going gets rough. You can do this.
I'll trade you for that -1. High temp here today was -18 farenheit and it's on the way back down. This morning the raw temp was -27 and the windchill was -55. I remember back when I was drinking i'd make sure to stock up heavily on beer so I didn't run out when it got too cold to go to the store. Now I stock up on soup and food for the kids and family!
One way to look at it is an opportunity to organize, work on neglected projects inside. Now it seems like a chore to come up with "other things to do" than drink, but believe me when you do get some time under your belt you wonder how you ever got things done spending all that time drinking. They are only triggers if you view them as such...they can also be viewed as opportunities.
