New Years Eve on other side of the fence.

So we went to my aunts for a family New Years Eve dinner and to watch the ball drop. My husband, myself and our daughter planned to sleep over. In years past it was so I could drink as much as I wanted.

This year it was because I didn't want to have to be out on the roads with my young daughter at that late hour when there might be drunk drivers out as well.

After I went to bed with my daughter at 12:30, she fell asleep, but I was kept awake by my family down the hall blaring music and singing at the top of their lungs. As I laid there with a folded blanket over my ears getting very irritated, I remembered that got years I was the ring leader for those sessions! I stopped feeling so annoyed and just made a mental note to change our New Years plans for future years.

However, sometime around 2:00 am my daughter woke up vomiting everywhere. I decided then it would be best for all if we just packed up and went home. I was grateful that being sober afforded me the opportunity to adjust our plans and take our sick daughter home to her own bed, when back in my drinking days we would have been stuck there!

Glad to ring in the new year sober, and look forward to a promising year ahead now that I have my life back!

Happy New Year All!!!!

Happy New Year to you and send wishes
and hope your young daughter is feeling
better.

I had to take care of myself and protect
my own recovery and sobriety by doing
whatever I needed to do in order to remain
sober and sain.

I found out many years later, only because
Im a slow learner in finding ways to avoid
situations that would aggravate the heck
out of me. Situations such as snoring by
my exspouse back in the day.

After much research, I found ear plugs
comfortable to wear and block out noises
that disturb my sleep and peace of mind.

I also use a fan for that white noise to
give me that calm and coolness at this
stage of life. Menopause.

Never hesitate to ask for help, look
for suggestions to help out any situation
you may need help in, in recovery.

That is something I had to learn because
I never wanted to bother or disturb others.
But finally realized that it's okay to ask for
what we need to further our journey in
recovery.
