My name is Matt. I recently relapsed after a year of sobriety, before that relapse, it was 7 years of sobriety. After this last relapse, I read a post about a book titled "Under the Influence",,,, it grabbed my interest. Alcoholism had never been medically explained to me before,,, thus it was always something I felt I could overcome, or worse yet, learn to control again. This book has set me straight on the true medical reasons why I can no longer drink. I want to thank this site for its existence and assistance. Welcome Matt! I just finished the book yesterday - very insightful and helpful! I also suggest "The Chemical Carousel - What Science Tells Us About Addiction" to further your understanding. I'm five months sober and am finding it empowering to educate myself about this disease.

hi Matt. I too found this book extremely helpful. It was written in 1981, and I was quite surprised I had never heard of it. I paid 1 penny, plush shipping on Amazon.

I have a couple relapses "under my belt" and nowhere near the sober time you've had.... I wonder; what brought about your relapse(s)?
