This is James in Roswell (Atlanta) GA and am new to this forum. I have 16 mos sober
Hi, just want to make friends and keep with winners now that am sober here in the Atlanta area. I'm originally from San Francisco where I first got sober at age 20 but then went out again after four years due to not doing the steps and slowly moving farther away from the AA program. I look at things much differently now and also have living proof that it does get worse & is a progressively cunning, baffling & powerful disease. I don't think I have another drunk left.
Glad to be here.

Yay!! Someone else from GA! Welcome to SR and a huge congrats on 16 months!
I don't know if you do meetings (I did in the beginning, but then got hooked on crack) but when I worked on the north side of Atlanta, I met several friends of Bill's that said there were awesome meetings all around.
I live south of Atlanta, and have found a good place where meetings are held in case I need to go back. I'm also a codependent, so went to an al-anon meeting, then hung outside talking to the AA people and it was pretty cool.
As you've found out, Atlanta is WAY different than San Fransisco (a city I absolutely love). Good thing is, there are TONS of stuff to do that don't involve alcohol. I'm a big kid (I'm 52) but I'm still looking forward to going to the aquarium, love the zoo and Stone Mountain. If you're an animal lover, there's an awesome place further south of me that a friend and I are going to. It's an animal sanctuary where they have all KINDS of animals. I want to see the cabin where the bear, lion and tiger live together
Anyway, welcome to SR and GA! SR has been a HUGE part of my recovery and in just a little over 2 months I will have 7 years - this site and the people here are AWESOME!!
Hugs and prayers,
Amy
