Smile and wave. Just smile and wave.

You know smokers who have quit and people who have found religion, how incredibly annoying they can be with their missionary traits?

Well, I've had to spend the day with a person who has just figured out that Al-Anon is a great place for family & friends of drunks. Oy. She knows very well I've gone to meetings for the past seven years but she's talking to me about all these aha-discoveries she has made -- you know, like, you didn't cause it... can't control it... can't cure it... I'm excited for her but at the same time, sweet Mary mother of God how many times can I say "I know -- that's wonderful!" or something to that effect???

I guess it's phase one in the codie recovery, huh? You find religion you need to share it with everyone because you still know better than everyone else!

I feel better now. I'm gonna go make dinner and get some more information about this amazing organization Al-Anon.

I think you handled it very well. She was just trying to help, bless her little heart.

Yes, by all means, look up that al-anon thing and see if it might be helpful to you.

Maybe I will give that stuff a try, too.

I feel so attracted, not promoted to it all.

You are a sweetheart, lillamy.

I never met an Al Anon one but I have seen some of those who are AAs.
I actually have a new coworker who is the AA version of it (has 18 years in recovery) and every conversation with him is him preaching the gospel according to Bill W (he does it to everyone not just me). I keep my recovery private and I am terrified he'll find out I am in AA because I know he will never leave me alone.

Jarp, don't worry, I'm sure you're as lovely as the lady who just talked my ear off...

And you know she did leave me with a smile. Because she has hope.
And that, my friends, is a good thing.

Well, I've had to spend the day with a person who has just figured out that Al-Anon is a great place for family & friends of drunks.

At my meetings we call this the "cheerleader phenomenon",standing on the sidelines with your megaphone and pompoms shouting out the virtues of alanon to everyone in earshot.
I've been trying to resist this myself. I did NOT slip alanon literature into my xab's mom's Christmas card (even though she really really needs it). But it did cross my mind.

OT to Carlotta- You always have the best avatars. I love me some Grumpy Cat.
