Thanks!

I've been trying for a few weeks to get sober and it's just been tough for me.

No, it's just I'm trying to get sober and I'm newly now living alone and it's tough. I'm drinking beers daily but not to get drunk cause I want to be sober, it's just for the withdrawal stuff.

Other than SR, are you using any additional support system?

There are options like AA, smart recovery, AVRT. Some need to try different approaches to find the right one.

Rather than the beers, is it possible to see a doctor and get a substitute for the withdrawals? they will be able to give you something to get you through the symptoms.

Your right, it's tough, having soo much time alone leads to so much temptation, the best thing is to start taking it a Day at a time, plan things to do during the time that you would usually be drinking.

Support is the big thing, most of us would agree, it can't be done alone, we need support, are you planning on AA meetings or other community groups, some of us just stay active on websites like this one and that's enough. The main thing is getting something that works for you.

I can't afford to go to a doctor right now, I would if I could.

I've thought about AA meetings, but I don't have a car anymore and the place I looked up is a while away.

Yeah, the temptations are tough.

Thanks, I know I can stop, it's just when. I'm trying to taper down and I'm hoping it's gonna work.

Welcome to SR.

If you ring your local AA helpline they may be able to sort out getting you to a meeting,

Welcome, MilonZ. I agree with the other posters: support is crucial to recovery. I'm glad you're here.

Hello and welcome. So much support here to help you through. It is not easy, but gets better. IMO the first week is the hardest.

Thanks, I know. I need support right now. I also didn't know there is a helpline.

I'm gonna look it up.

Yes, like Heath said there should be an AA Helpline. I'm not sure what area you're in but a lot of them have webpages. I'm currently without a car/license right now myself. If you can get to ONE meeting you'll be shocked at how many people will offer to pick you up and drop you off. The people in AA are the most generous and giving people on the planet.

Others have mentioned AA -- and it's free! I haven't tried it yet but will be shortly. Just got out of detox and a lot of the people in there had some pretty positive things to say about it.

There's also a chat room for some more real time interaction, and I believe a weekly chat meeting tonight (not sure when).

And, there's always someone around here to offer support to you, too.

Dee posted some links to free/low cost clinics. Maybe check it out and see if there is something in your area?
