Would have been day 24

But I drank tonight. I won a bottle of red wine tonight and on the way home I bought another bottle. When I got home I pretended that the bottle I won was a really good bottle of red so I said I would just taste it. What my sister didn't know was that I had a regular bottle of red in my handbag so I kept topping up thaf one glass.

She's out now, I'm trying to sober up and eat something but that's it - so many days down the drain.

I was actually trying to give advice on the December thread, who do I think I am ?

The good news is that you can choose to forgive yourself and make today day 1. Today is my day 1 again. I hope this helps.

Hi Cara, those days are not down the drain. Everything you learned during that time you can apply to your recovery now. Forgive yourself, learn from it and keep moving forward. Best wishes.

You're the same as everyone else here Cara. Just because you didn't take your own advice doesn't mean that advice is not good

you were feeling tired, jittery and anxious - it's those times I think we need to be most careful and reach out even more.

Think of this not as a failure, but as a lesson you needed to learn, maybe?

you really can do this - think about what you can add to what you're doing

You're a person with a problem, Cara. Try again. You CAN do it.

I lost 46 days at my last relapse - there are people who lost years. It's not good to count time as success or failure. It's not a race or test - it's a change in way of life.

Cara, forgive yourself and try to learn from the experience so it doesn't have to happen again. You've learned in the 22 days of sobriety you had and you can continue.

It's not a waste! Use the lessons learned and the sting of your slip to do better next time.

It happens. The best thing you can do is get yourself back on track as soon as possible. All is not lost if you do not pick up tomorrow no matter how much the hangover suggests more drinking.

I know how disappointed you feel but can you learn anything from it? Where there any specific trigger points? Did you feel it coming? What will you do different next time? Could you come to SR before you drank rather than after? Anyway it is good that you are getting back on the horse. All the best

Thanks for the advice all I really appreciate.

Back on day 1, feeling disappointed with myself but determined not to have another year drinking in 2014.

I've learned from it though and realised that I wont be ready to be around alcohol and drinking for a longer time than I realised despite feeling strong.

Thanks again all x
