Day 3 from NO wine!

Hi friends. I just wanted to check in and tell you all I conquered day 2 and now on day 3, still night sweats, not sleeping well. The headaches are definitely the worst still. I want to thank each and everyone of you for your continued support and I WILL STRONGLY GET THROUGH THIS WEEKEND! Because that WAS my worst. I have been putting thoughts of drinking and channel them in a box where I can't open it. What keeps me going is my family, my kids, my health and the support from SR.

sounds like you and I had the same weekend. I'm on day 4. I keep telling myself "always forward, never back". I love this forum and the people are so positive and supportive.

Yes I can't say it has been easy. Oddly enough I have been drinking sugar free tonic water, straight up in the evenings because the dryness of it is like wine. It takes the edge off for me and I have been getting plenty of rest. I also noticed its not just the addiction but the habit of having wine with dinner, computer, tv, cooking dinner and worst off right after work at 4 pm. I will continue to come here I may be a rookie but I'm gonna keep doing this! No hangovers is euphoric.

I could not have broken the beautiful ground I have to date...without a sober lucid mind and SR. Keep SR cocked and ready in the holster this weekend.

Great work.

Excellent! I'm on day 3 as well, and have been guzzling diet tonic water with lime the past two evenings. All the taste of a gin and tonic, but none of the poison.

Nice work. These early days are tough. I'm only just past them myself. I echo what others are saying: keep SR ready this weekend. We are hear for you, and like someone said to me early on, we're open all night--sorry, I forgot who told me that

Yup - me too. I would drink wine when I was folding laundry, on the computer, in front of tv, out with friends, opening my mail, everything was an occasion for wine. i think I brought a glass of wine in to the shower with me once!

It was only when I realized that my 30 yr stretch of excessive drinking every single night was based upon habit and routine did I believe that I could beat it. Habits can be broken. Keep it up!

It is the habits that are hard to break. Associating everything you do with having a glass of wine. Cooking? Glass of wine. Folding laundry? Glass of wine. Reading a book? Ditto. Computer, ditto. The only thing I didn't associate with drinking was brushing my teeth.

Keep on going! You are doing great!

And lots of times I didn't brush my teeth at night because by the time I was done drinking for the night and falling into bed I just didn't care. Don't miss that or the taste in my mouth when I woke up.

Your story sounds familiar. Congrats on your decision to quit!
