First day of soberity

Hey everyone. This is my first day of sobriety. I'm a active duty infantry soldier and I've been an alcoholic for nearly 4 1/2 years except for the year I was deployed. I've finally hit the point where I'm ready to deal with my substance abuse probably. So here I am and wish me luck

Good luck WMR. SR is a great place to find support from people who have been there and done that. Welcome to the community!

Thanks I'm feeling very optimistic. It's time for me to let myself experience happiness. Time to let myself be happy again

Welcome to the family WMR - we're so glad you joined us. You're never alone & we all understand.

Many never face the fact that they are alcoholics - you've acknowledged it and reached out for support. It is wonderful to be free of it. You can do this!

Does one know of a support group that is not religious in nature?

There's many different approaches and methods of recovery around WMR - here's some links to some of the main players, including AA:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html

I believe most of those listed above are secular in nature (no higher power) except Celebrate Recovery and AA.

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach.
