Giving sobriety a try

This is the first time I'm really considering this, not sure if my will is strong enough. 33 years old and feeling like crap cause I can't control my drinking, I wish I could be a casual drinker but that's not the case. I'm all or nothing, if I drink I get totally wasted then hate myself the next day. I've made bad decisions while drinking, got my first DUI about 5 years ago. I just feel it's time for a change. Just looking for some support here. Thanks

Thanks guys, i will read up on the info here. Gotta find a more productive way to deal with the stresses from life and work. I always drank to get my mind off of things even though I know better. Old habits die hard. I'm hoping sobriety will help me live a more meaningful and productive life, the years are going by so fast these days.

I have been sober for some time, but needed something and somewhere to chat with like-minded people during times of stress. I am so glad I found this place. Good luck xx

Glad to meet you j808! You found a great place.

It was all or nothing for me too - but I didn't have the sense at 33 to get off the crazy train. I'm so glad you joined & are considering sobriety. You'll avoid so much chaos and misery.

I'm truly grateful for all the support. Thank you all. I'm happy I found a place I can turn too. Actually getting a little emotional here, lol. I really appreciate it. I know this is going to be a long journey. Atleast I know I'm not alone.

Welcome to SR! You are about my age and sounds like you are having a similar realization to what I had. I knew my drinking was a problem for years but just kept telling myself I would stop later. I said I would stop at 27. Then at 28. Then at 29... Finally, for whatever reason, when I decided to stop at turning 30 it seems to have stuck. I just didn't want to go into a new decade of my life being miserable and completely disconnected from the world around me.

You will not regret your choice! It was very hard for me at first but once the weeks started going by it got easier. Find support wherever you need it and just keep going. Eventually, you will wake up one morning and go the entire day without thinking about alcohol. I'm glad you joined us!
