Sober bar
Hey everyone ! Almost one yr sober !
I have a question for you all in recovery. I'm opening up a sober bar. Its similar to a regular bar with tvs, pool tables, darts, air hockey, music, karaoke, etc.. however there is zero alcohol served .. only coffee, sodas, energy drinks, water, etc. and is a safe environment for aa/na members and anyone in recovery. No drunks allowed. But I want to kno what you all think and if you would attend. Thank you all for your input !

I think it's a wonderful idea. I wish there were more places like that. So many times, people fear they will have to give up any fun things like shooting pool or going to the pub/bar to watch football or other sporting events or listen to a band or do karaoke. If there were more places like the one you are opening, I think that would help a lot. People CAN have fun without alcohol, they just need to be made aware that there are places to go where alcohol isn't part of the deal.

YES!!! Please come to my town and open one up. I would SO go. I think it's a fabulous idea and a beautiful way for sober folks to socialize. I think even those not in recovery would come....plenty of people don't drink and don't want to be around alcohol. DO IT!!
What doesn't sound fun about that? Great atmosphere. Fun activities. Awesome food. What a lovely way for single sober people to meet up. I aways felt bad for younger single people who are sober. All their friends hitting bars. Heck...book only sober bands. Make it exclusive. Members only. Velvet rope the joint. Think of all the non drinking celebrities that you could invite. Save the VIP room for kindest, nicest, helpful sober people. Screw selfish self indulgent. Make sober cool.
We all know it is. About time everyone else knows too.
Don't forget karaoke. Sober karaoke is the best. Nothing says self esteem more than sober fun bad singing!
I mean a coffee shop is nice and all but please. We ain't dead yet.

I think it's a really great idea.
Am I the only one who has observed the essential weirdness of the "bar" concept, or are some of you with me? If you sort of divorce yourself from the fact that we've all grown up in a world in which bars exist, the strangeness of them becomes apparent - at least to me. Imagine an alien coming to this planet and discovering bars. These establishments are literally built around the idea of people coming together to jointly partake of this liquid drug. The bar itself encircles the broad display of the many forms of the drug, for participants to admire and choose from. The whole purpose is to come together and, essentially, get "high" (drunk) off this drug. Weird and disturbing, when you think of it like that.

It's a great point SeekingGrowth, something the Romans started off, traditionally for travellers to rest for the night and have food/drink!! . . . though now with just standalone (no accomodation) bars and clubs the concept is profit making more just from alcohol sales!!
"what did the Romans ever do for us??"
