Advice needed

Hope I put this in the right part of the site but my head is wrecked lately.
I'm just over 7 months clean(Alcohol). The black eyed dog returned in his glory earlier this month and I had no choice but to go to my GP for help.
I'm getting my meetings in and have a lot of support from the fellowship here in Ireland. The Doc put me on Prozac 20mg a day and Seroquel 25mg a day.Side effects are shite but I do know that in the past I self medicated in vast amouts for depression and I don't want to go back there. If anybody in early recovery has had experience with anti-depressants I'd be glad of their advise.I suffer from severe panic attacks and anxiety too. This is my first time facing my demons without alcohol and I'm scared.

Hi Gordon,
I can't address the depression in recovery issue but it sounds like you are doing the right thing by getting your doctor's help.
You might get more feedback by posting this thread in the "Newcomers to Sobriety" section. Even though it has "newcomers" in the title, it seems to be where anyone struggling with alcohol lands.
Best of luck to you!

I was on anti-depressants for years after I first got sober (way back in 1991)...now on day 38 (again)....I was convinced that I had a chemical imbalance (which is how I rationalized my drinking). Eventually weaned myself off of them....but good that you are under a doctorr's care (I was too...he prescribed me valium - 5mg) for my panic attacks...I had some doozies. BUT, I have also heard that valium can substitute for alcohol (being a benzo) and you can get somewhat addicted to them too. Thankfully, I did not. I think I was on Seroquel for a while as well....I am not a doctor, so....doc's advice is best. Does the doc know you quit drinking, or that it was a problem for you? I was very honest with mine. All the best....

I have no experience either Gordon - I have been on prozac tho - before I got sober. Give it a little time to kick in - hopefully the side effects will diminish too.

of course - if you have any particular concerns, see your Dr

I've been on antiD's for a long time but of course they didn't work very well while I was drinking. Now that I'm sober they're working well and my depression is manageable.
