Sponsorship
Sponsorship
Hi guys
Well today I bit the bullet and said yes about being sponsored.
I approached a girl at a meeting who has about 11 years sobriety and works the program.
I asked her to be my sponsor and she said yes and asked me to call her in a few days after considering
A) what do I want from a sponsor and
B) what am I willing to do/not willing to do?
Well I texted her back just then after 2 days and I am hopefully going to speak with her tonight and say that
A) I want to work the steps with her and
B) I am willing to work the steps to the best of my ability.
So does anyone else have a sponsor in aa and were nervous to begin with?
I guess it's worth a try eh?
Yours in recovery
Rebecca

Hi. Many people have a fear of the unknown and it involves sponsors also. I was told they are people who went through what we all go through but have the experience now having been there. Sponsorship has no long term contract and if it doesn't develop for either is easily dissolved. In 30+ years I am fortunate to have shared with 2 sponsors for many years each my "problems" and successes and spent many hours with each as friends. I will say some of the answers I got back I didn't like but were very accurate.
Remember sponsors are helped a lot by helping as the remember when factor and other things are drawn into the present moment. I was often helped when I called either one and spoke to their spouses, who were both in Al Anon. Years later I remember some of their phrases.

Hi Rebecca, congratulations.
Working with a sponsor made a real difference to me. Meetings were great, but it wasn't until I started working the steps with mine that it all started clicking into place.
Best wishes to you x

I was not nervous, I was relieved. It was time to get busy working the steps. I am so glad today she is my sponsor and my friend. I would not be where I am today with out her help and guidance. I trust her more than I anyone in my life right now.

Im not in AA anymore but I do remember being a nervous wreck in early recovery. What my sponsor at the time helped me understand is that he's an alcoholic too and "this is just one alcoholic helping another, that's all it is." I was able to build trust through sponsorship and step work. I also experienced some pretty cool feelings along the way. I'm glad to hear you're willing. It's worth it.
