First time i've posted
I haven't drank now for 9 days. gone back to the gym and starting to feel normal again
All the puffiness is disappearing and i'm looking like a human.
Been a really bad year for me. Still trying to convince myself that one day i can socialize with a drink again...

Welcome and congratulations on 9 days! I remember when the bloating in my face subsided and I looked in the mirror at a new version of myself. Felt good! Stay at it and don't think about socially drinking down the road. Give yourself a good long time sober and you will probably find you prefer it over any kind of drinking. Glad you are here!

Hello, fellow member of the Empire! (I'm Canadian) East ender? The approach my cousellers started with was to avoid saying "U have to stop completely". Unfortunately one year and loss of my new car, nearly killing myself a few times, I know - you kind of do have to stop completely. Maybe not you but my brain is perma-screwed - one drink and I lose control now. I miss social drinking too, but as one SMART recovery leader said, its like you have only so many drink tickets (at a dance,) and you have used yours up for life... Better than drowning in a ditch or dying of hypothermia in a snow bank. Take it a day at a time, keep taking action to recover 3 things on the to-do list a day, and have fun.
Welcome, donnyboy and congrats on 9 days I'm sorry you've had a bad year so far, but you've made a great decision in quitting now - time enough to ensure 2013 has a much better end
