Meetings & Sponsor

I am from Vancouver but I'm now in Toronto living with my sister until I am strong enough to go back to Vancouver. I did inpatient for 4 months in Toronto and since I left rehab I've been going to meetings everyday. I do outpatient from 8 AM to 5 PM and I go to a meeting right after. I've been doing this since saturday.

Is it Worth it to go to meetings, meet new people and find a sponsor in a city where I won't stay for the rest of my life?

I want to work the steps but maybe I should wait until I go back to Vancouver? What do you all think I should do?

To be honest, I have been attending AA meetings regularly for about two weeks but do not have a sponsor nor have I been working the steps so I don't have really good advice to give... HOWEVER, I do want to commend you on all of your hard work!!!!!
It appears you are working so hard to maintain your sobriety and I sincerely commend you- it's very admirable!!

In terms of meetings... I would think even if you wont be there forever at least attending for that social support as you're doing would be really helpful...

Start now, then when you move back you can get another sponsor and tell them what step you're on.

What have you got to lose? Moreover, you are likely to gain some insight.

I would go to the meetings. Nothing to lose in doing so. You will have the support of people who understand what you are going through. I've been to numerous meetings where people in sober living houses who aren't from the area attend.

((Chaili05)) thank you for telling me this !!

I didn't think it'd be ok to get another sponsor when I'll leave. I thought it was best to keep the same sponsor. I'll start looking for a sponsor then

Over here, you can have what is called a temporary sponsor until you settle down. I would imagine its the same in Canada ?

Personally, I'd never do anything to postpone a better life.
