Tapering
I'm what you call a weekend warrior but the last month have been on a daily 10-12 beer And 4-5 shot nights daily. I'm down to 6-7 beers and a shot. I'm afraid to quit cold turkey or am I over thinking this
No, you're not over thinking it. You're drinking quite a bit and withdrawal can be very dangerous.
I would consult a doctor and be brutaly honest about you're drinking.
I tried tapering and went through horrible withdrawal
I drank like you did, so you're not alone. You'll find lots of support here.
Best to you with quitting.

Thanks. I was told if I tapered down a few beers a day that I wouldn't have an issue. I had four years sober at one point and don't remember what my symptoms were because I was in patient. I'm not shaking or sweating but I know my grandfather almost died when I was young. I'm scared but determined
Tapering is mostly just an excuse to keep drinking. You will find many, many threads about it here and the result is almost always the same, which is that the individual keeps drinking. If you truly want to quit, visiting a doctor or detox center is your best bet.

Seeing a doctor -- reaching out -- will also strengthen your commitment to getting sober.
I was drinking like you were. I cut it cold turkey 48 hours ago, felt anxious and foggy and shaky for 24 hours. I feel 95%-100% A-Ok now. That's my experience. Yours may be different and possibly fatal. I wanted the pain of a detox. That's not recommended. See the doctor or visit an ER.
I've never thought I'd solve my drink problem by continuing to drink.

I did tapper the first week, I found that very difficult – it is easier to stop all together.
It will feel good in some time not to need the alcohol anymore. You have something to look forward to

Update
I am tapering off slowly. There are a few things I notice. If my last drink is at 8 and 23 hours passes my heart rate rises to about 70-80 beats per minute. I do notice I'm not going to sleep plastered so I am dreaming again. My REM sleep is up and going. No shakes. Mild sweating during the day on and off. No dizziness, shaking, vomiting, or blood sugar issues.

I do also notice a slight backlash from my husband. I doubt it's intentional. It's his night off tonight and he said "it's my night off" after I said I was only having 3 beers. I just said "that's ok, you can drink, I don't have to drink with you". Sometimes I wonder if it's easy to keep me drinking more than he does to justify his drinking.

Agree totally! I feel much better now. Does anyone else have a spouse that gets mad when they quit? The only thing I have is nightmares. Otherwise, I think I'm golden and ready to quit.im excited but I do fear my husband being bitter cause he is losing his drinking partner

Thanks everyone for the help. I totally appreciate it. I'm hoping to get back into sports. I started again before this got out of control. I never used to drink. I want to go back to that again. Life was better.
