Stay Close
Stay Close
Hi Friends,
I found this video clip today and thought I would share it with my peeps on SR. I think her message is really powerful and I can relate so much to her early experiences with her son's drug use. It may raise some eyebrows about contact versus no contact, but as a parent, I find her message of "stay close" very comforting.

Dear Pravchaw---I finished this book about a month ago---I read it because I saw it mentioned on this board.
I think it soeaks to a parent's heart--the way it REALLY is--more than anything I have ever read. Also, it isn't "preachy".
I highly recommend it to any parent who is going through the pain of having an addicted child.

Interesting, yet she choose a 12 step program, Alanon.
From everything I keep reading, it seems many addiction doctors prescribe medications - such as Antabuse, methadone, suboxone and now naltrexone.
I know many do not that find that to be "real" recovery but if it saves the lives of so many then I can't see why it is such an issue. JMHO

Gardenmama, thank you so much for sharing this link. I couldn't stop crying. Sometimes I do feel like I'm the only one my son has. I have to say that with all the ups and downs I've had with my son, we are still as close as ever. I love spending time with him and he always tell me that I'm beautiful and how much he loves me. He treats me so good but at the same time I suffer when I see him suffer because of his addiction. I am glad to hear someone say it's okay to stay close. I don't think I could cut him off emotionally or any of my kids, with or without addiction.
