Does anyone have recovery success stories?

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has any success stories from the addicts in their lives? Don't get me wrong, I know relapse is always something to be aware of, but its also good to hear and celebrate the successes. It can help give us an energy boost when this disease brings us down.

Thanks!!!

Its been about 18 months since my husband went into recovery; rehab, therapy. He seems to be doing well. His drug use started with prescription pain meds, but he also ended up using other drugs like Xanax and cocaine. He has now been clean longer than the amount of time he was addicted - so for that we are grateful.

I think many of us leave these kinds of forums when we see our loved ones have embraced recovery. I would imagine this is for different reasons. But anyway what remains is mostly those of us dealing with our loved ones still in active substance use. So it looks like that are not as many success stories as there really are...

That's my take on it anyway.

There is a whole section on SR - "Stories of Recovery". That may be a good place to start.

For 15 months now I've upheld my boundary where I will not tolerate any form of active addiction around myself or my children.

My qualifier (ex) has maintained sobriety for the past 14 months.

We live separate, remain friends and work together to raise our children. We detached from one another and focused on ourselves.

I feel that we're a success today because we're no longer damaging our kids.

I am a "success" story. I was never on heroin/oxi nor did I smoke crack. I was addicted to weed, alcohol, X, coke and vicodin.
I can say that I am choosing to not do any of these drugs anymore.
I partied very hard and I don't miss it one bit!
I'm glad and grateful I made it out alive.

The only positive thing I can say about my AXGF is she's gone, and in that regard, she's a success.
