why symptoms this time?

i haven't had a drink in 10 days and i'm light-headed, fatigued, and sleeping a lot. i've stopped drinking before periodically and never had symptoms like these. for 20 years i've been a european kind of almost daily wine drinker, 3 or 4 glasses spread throughout the day, getting drunk only on special occasions. never any trouble stopping or binging or blacking out. i'm wondering why this time i'm having symptoms. any thoughts?

Welcome

I'm no Dr, but you might find some interesting reading here ascanius that could give you some answers

I'm on day 18 and until now, was sleeping ridiculous amounts of hours. It seems to be settling back down now.
Keep going, it WILL sort itself out, but as Dee says 'Kindling' makes it worse each time.

Google Kindling effect. Even more reason to stop once and for all.
Good luck.

You can read that stuff if you like. That's just the way the body reacts for whatever reasons. I've quit numerous times in my life. It gets harder and the after affects are worse each time.

thanks. but that doesn't seem to fit. i've never have the need to keep on drinking until i pass out or anything remotely like that. alcohol has never triggered an insatiable sort of response in me.

what do you suspect is causing it then?
Maybe seeing a Dr could set your mind at ease?

Your body is used to the sugar from the alcohol. Your having sugar withdrawals just like winnie the pooh!

Sure, the sugar is a possible explanation. Why did you quit exactly, if you don't mind my asking?

i've always been in the habit of taking a few weeks off from drinking every few months or so. the idea was to give my liver a periodic rest. though i've never had liver problems. that's why it's strange i'm having symptoms. maybe it's unrelated. though if this kindling hypothesis is correct, maybe it's better just to keep on with moderate drinking and not take pauses. though i think the kindling effect has more to do with pretty heavy consumption.

Umm..10 days without drinking is great!!! And you sound like you are doing well.

Sumptoms? I think you might have a headache from stress, loss of sleep. More vitamin B and melatonin at night.

fatigue is very common in early sobriety. I was sleeping a lot the first 3 months. Get a physical just in case but don't worry too much

I think getting older is always in the mix when it comes to changing physical habits too...

maybe your body is trying to tell you something, Maybe drinking is having more of a physical effect on you than you realize. Carrying on drinking rather than stopping because you're having physical effects when you quit sounds a little crazy
