At the airport ..

Hey friends..

I'm writing this at an airport waiting for a flight ( which is delayed )

Usually, the ritual of going to the airport after checking in is straight to the bar for me..

But today I'm sober and had some food and water instead..

I was worried about coming here on my own but now I know I will not drink today and that makes me feel very happy..

Still very early days but I'm catching glimpse of a new reality..

This forum is a wonderful place and gives a person strength ..

Love to you all.

You know what you are? "Leaving, on a jet plane". Haha. Sorry. I couldn't resist. Have a safe flight.

Good for you for passing by the bar.

For a number of years my airport ritual was the same Once I was through security, I headed straight to the bar. Even worse, in the States, many airport bars offer a discounted shot of liquor if you buy a large beer. So there was usually an incentive to get liquored up.

I haven't flown since I quit, but Starbucks will be my new airport hangout while waiting for flights.

I know what you mean about the ritual at the airport. I think one of the secrets of sobriety is to break these rituals/ habits/ customs. The more often we break them the stronger we become.

I fly alot for work. Usually at least once a week. You are right on with the discounted shot In the US...would you like a shot with that for 4 dollars extra. Well since I just paid 10 bucks for this beer thats a bargain. Even worse is the free drink tickets they send you in the mail when you fly alot. I got a stack of them in my office. Traveling sober can be tough...keep fighting the good fight.
