3 Years Today!

And the reason I put this in the newcomers forum is because I want to encourage anyone starting out to keep going.
The last month has been an incredible growth period for me.

Thank you so much to all the SR people who have helped me on my journey.

I have come to believe in myself and my abilities and have faith in the universe.
I am forging my own path.

I go to AA and do a lot of reading.
I am now of the mindset that It is ok to be an individual in my approach to staying sober.
Although, people will emphasize the need to work on changing and addressing the reasons we drank and using various tools such as 12 steps etc,
I am of the opinion that the most important thing I have done in the last 3 years is simply, NOT DRINK.
All else can be dealt with.
Also, the acronym, HALT!
Do not let yourself get
Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired.
The best of luck to everyone trying to stop drinking.
It is worth it all.
FREEDOM.

Congratulations Hollyanne and thank you for posting.

I've had a horrible slip the past few days and really needed to read your post.

HALT....so true.

Great job on three years! I can only dream about that at the moment. But this gives me great encouragement to see that anything is possible. All I have to do is not drink. It is good to look to the future BUT at the same time enjoy our own sobriety in the here and now. Thanks again for your post you are a real inspiration.

I agree. It comes down to not drinking. And doing whatever it takes to ensure you stay not drinking. Have faith that you can get sober.
