Motivation & Inspiration

In addition to SR, where else do you turn for motivation and inspiration? I still have a fear of AA meetings (I'm sure because it's been difficult for me to truthfully face my addiction, other than to my family & therapist), but I've found certain movies & books to be extremely inspirational. What do you all turn to?

My higher power.

No movie, book, or song was going to keep me sober.

Not picking up a drink no matter what keeps me sober.

Staying busy building a life that I want to live keeps me from throwing in the towel and choosing booze over everything else.

Nothing magic. Just me making better choices all day long, turning to things that are not destructive to fill my life with.

A funny movie instead of a horror movie, a call to a friend instead of a wallow in self doubt, cooking dinner from scratch instead of a microwave meal and a night of whatever I used to while I drank.

I just use the memories of all the embarrassing, shameful and just plain dangerous things I've done in the past - plus SR of course
Reading about kindling, tends to kill any cravings stone dead too x

Books have been a massive inspiration to me. I have just been working my way through the books in the stickies plus others. I also listen to a lot of podcasts because I can at work and it keeps me grounded... AA speaker tapes and dhamalokka podcasts and against the stream. I am not buddhist but I have learnt so much listening to these. I just grab onto anything I think will help and I learn so much in the process.
