I am so happy to be here!

I am so happy to be here and I love reading all of the posts. I have such wonderful info to share with the family and friends of alcoholics/drug abusers. If you want them, just ask. The admins gave me permission to share with all of you! I learned how to post them here. I have already responded to several others. Thanks for being here to encourage me.

Agreed with Chy!
Why don't you tell your story to start? I would be interested.
Shalom!

Awesome.
I'm an alcoholic and a drug abuser.
I have a family. I'll be listening.
Welcome!

Shalom!
I began attending meetings in March of 92. My son was in a treatment center and when we went to the after recovery for the family, they suggested his dad and I go to alanon to learn more about how this affects all of the family. My other two younger kids went to alateen. His dad chose not to go to anything, so he is still madder than a run over dog. His business, not mine. Actually I went to see how to get my son to stop drinking/using. I found out quickly, that was not my job. My job was to care for me and learn how to change my thinking and my big mouth.
Paramount to my recovery, I secured a wonderful, caring sponsor and I went right to work on the steps. That changed me, folks. I could not believe how distorted my thinking had become. In those first few months, I felt this was a dubious task at best. However, since everything I had tried had not worked, I gave it my all. It works great for me. I stay in my program, call my sponsor when I have ''stinkin-thinkin'', and continue to work the steps over and over. I sponsor many gals all over the country. I do a lot of service work too, which I find personally rewarding. I keep my ''house clean'' and let others do what they may.
Making meetings gives me RELIEF... working those steps gives me RECOVERY. Big difference.
Thanks for letting me share and for making me feel a part of this ''group''.
