Positive weekend

So, I'm three weeks in and this last weekend I travelled to an event where I had been invited to teach. Friday night was the worst point - we had all travelled to the venue, food was ordered in and wine was available. I stuck to lime and soda and as I hoped there were a couple of other folks who weren't drinking. In fact there were only a couple of people who drank too much and even they said no when they'd had enough.

Saturday I woke up sober, did what I had been booked to do and then by the time everything was over on Saturday night was tired so instead of staying up late I went to bed, read some threads here on SR and elsewhere and then slept really well.

I'm not suggesting that I've beaten the beast into submission for good, but I will say that deciding not to take the first sip on Friday night was a great decision for me to make.

Talking

That is awesome!
I recently thought about life...
We have two roads to take, one is good, the other appears good at first but turns bad. These roads intersect, and when they do, we have a choice.

It seems to me that you chose the good road last night. You did yourself a major favor there. Way to go!

Thank you all. I felt as though this post might be out of place after reading of the some the struggles some of our members have been through this weekend, but figured a positive story has as much place as a negative one.

Great post!

I'm am dreading having to travel for business again. I would drink so much in hotel room, ordering room service because I was too drunk to make it downstairs.

But I know I will have to travel again soon. Your story gives me hope

I think it's important to share both the good and the bad and how we deal with either scenario and remain sober.

Thanks misspond

Well, if it's any extra help, i started a new job today too - for the last 10 years I've been self-employed. Now i'm employed and do some self-employed hours - and it felt great to approach it with a clear head and heart.
