New to forums

Hi. I have never been on a forum before, so I am doing a lot of new things today. I want last night to be the last time I drink. I'm so tired of disappointing myself and my family. I so wish I could have just one or two drinks, but I can't. This is a big step for me. I have visited the AA website so many times but I can't bring myself to go to a meeting. I need a little more anonymity than that and that's how I found this site. I hope to "meet" some people in similar situations that can share their road to recovery and get some tips on staying sober. Thanks for letting me share

Welcome to the SR forums, Jill.
There's a lot of people here that have and are giving up alcohol for good.
You'll find a lot of support here.

Congrats on taking that first step by posting here.

Just curious, why do you think AA will not offer you the anonymity you need? I have a pretty high profile job and I've never had any issues. People take the anonymous aspect of AA very seriously. Maybe try closed meetings where only alcoholics can attend.

Good luck!

I live in a small town and am active in my sons school. I just wouldn't want to be judged. I am also a little weary of faith based programs. I have my own set of beliefs. I want to try this first. Thank yyou all for the welcome. I feel very positive about this step

Fair enough. I'm not one of those people who think AA is the only way. It saved my life (and I'm an atheist) but everyone has a different path. Maybe check out the secular forum here in SR.

Stay strong!

Welcome Jill! We all understand just how you feel. This is a great place for friendship and support - the normal drinkers in our lives can't know what we go through. Please keep reading & posting - you can kick that stuff out of your life & have a wonderful new beginning.

Hi Jill, welcome. I think you have the right idea. Do things differently, in a new way. Shake up your routine. Find new interests. Great job posting. This is a great place.

Welcome Jill and Arbor. I discovered my life is not over and there are a multitude of joys in sobriety. I remember the fear and doubt and my many failed attempts to get sober. It is possible by many methods if you work it

Thank you all so much for the support. I have been doing a lot of reading and introspection today. I finally feel like I can do it this time. I have the support of my family, but they don't understand my addiction. I am so glad I stumbled upon this site this morning. Tonight has been easy as I am still nursing a hangover from last night, but I'm so glad to know you all will be here tomorrow when the struggle begins. If I can make thru happy hour its pretty smooth sailing.

Welcome Jill. I understand the need/desire for anonymity, I felt very much that way when I arrived six months ago.

Anyone at an AA meeting is not there because it is slow night. They are there fighting the same battle as you so they will not be talking. AA saved my life and then taught me how to lead a sober happy life
