Three Days In. I Feel Confident!
I'm three days in to a confident sobriety. I have tried several times, but it was just easy this time. I had gone from single malt scotch at $50 a bottle a week to two $20 bottles of vodka per week.
I found myself stupidly drunk on a Monday night, and realized how dumb this was. I poured out all of it the next day, and resolved to not poison myself and hide in the bottle anymore.
I'm a Paleo guy, so that helps my confidence in discipline and results. I think that may be the difference now. I've been eating healthy (briefly vegetarian for weeks, too) for months, as well as weight lifting and walking with my son to help him lose weight and build confidence.
I help out with my daughter's cross country team nowadays and enjoy meeting and making new friends.
I guess I found peace and happiness before I poured it out and already had a replacement for drinking in place.
I'll be hanging around more often now too. I am ditching some of my old haunts, as the political hatred and rhetoric is depressing and foolish.

I think avoiding or minimizing sweets helps to reduce cravings. Sweets and alcohol have similar effects, especially for those of us (many) who have low or sensitive blood sugar. They both create cravings, since alcohol is also sugar. By the same token if I used to be in a situation where I was having several drinks and couldn't stop, switching to something sweet as a substitute allowed me to avoid further drinks. But avoiding them in sobriety helps to avoid swings in blood sugar levels that lead to further cravings.
welcome back FDM
Exercise, meaning in our lives, and diet are all good things - to be honest tho I needed more than that. I needed to make real changes in my life.
Only you know what real changes mean for you tho, and how far you're prepared to go.
Wishing you well - I hope that all you have in place will be enough for you
