Happy 1 Year to me!
Happy 1 Year to me!
They say only alcoholics count their days, yet somehow I overlooked the fact that 9/17 marked my one-year anniversary of sobriety. It hasn't been easy, and it hasn't always been fun, but it's definitely been worth it. This has got to be one of the best years of my life. After 25+ years of an escalating drinking problem, I finally decided to stop treading water last September and get out of the pool. I think the thing I'm most happy about is that my example has spurred three family members into action, too, and now they're on their own journey of recovery. I don't post here much, but I'm here every day reading all of your stories and supporting when I can. I couldn't have done it without SR.
There is hope, everyone. Believe in yourself, believe in the folks on this site, believe in whatever higher power gets you through life and know that life is unquestionably better without alcohol.
Thanks all. I hope to celebrate my next year here, too...
