Just called the doctor-think I need medication...

I cannot stay sober, no matter what. No matter how many regrets I have from the day before, no matter how I acted, I always reach for the next drink.

I would love to go into a rehab center or something but I have to keep working, yet every day I pray I don't lose my job.

So, I called the doctor today to see if I can go on Antabuse. I feel it's the only thing that will help me.

Good luck RenoDis. It can be tough making that first break with the booze.

I don't think the doctor will prescribe antabuse though until you have dried out a bit. That's my understanding anyway.

My father uses it with good result after some 15 years of drinking.

Discuss Antabuse with your doctor but remember that it works by making you too scared to drink; it doesn't deal with the underlying reasons for the drinking.

Just the fact that you have discussed it (and whichever alternatives they may recommend) might help you feel a bit more in control of the process.

Best wishes

Hey Ren the doc sounds like a good idea! I have no experience with antibuse, however I do have some experience with getting sober. You have to change up your routine. Relearn to do things without alcohol and create new healthy habits. It's not easy in the beginning but if you stick to it, good change is inevitable!

it's always a good idea to get help when we find we are floundering on our own. I have a friend who found sobriety by first using antabuse.

The Dr may have some other good ideas for you as well. Please check back in here and share what happens.
