The depression is the worst part and it sucks but trust me, it gets worse. This is life, and it's going to happen whether you're drunk or not. I know how you must've felt...bypassing those beers... holy crap

I understand the depression, the thing is alcohol will make u depressed more xx

I used to think that it made me higher, but it never did when i stopped it made things go further wrong with me. I have a mental illness and this was diagnosed before i drank hard.

Me saying i used to think, i actually think that it keeps me awake, guess it did when i was younger, but not now. All i get is feel crap, which saying that, it hasnt stopped me this time around. I am still trying to find that self confidence i had yrs ago when i gave up drink and smoking. When u drink, urself confidence goes and any self respect also.

Its a hard hill to climb again but im sure u will find it. Just take the time to look at urself and others and take the little steps in doing this. each time u say no! u ahead of everything and u gain that little pleasure.

hope u do well and im sure i will get there also. just needs the help of others xx

Welcome cldg. I'm so glad you want to make this big change in your life. You found a great place for support.

It's understandable to be down & a little scared. I had grown so dependent on it that I was drinking all day in the end. I really couldn't imagine life without it - even though I was miserable and desperate to get free of it. Each day you should feel a bit better - it takes time to heal from all the damage we've done to ourselves. You can do this - we are with you. Happy you joined the family.

So glad you are here! I am on day 18. On day one I could not see that less than 3 weeks later I would really be feeling good and starting to feel freedom from drinking. Don't give up.

Here's the thing about depression and alcohol it's 20 times worse when drinking. But it's still pretty SH:?y when sober. The only difference is once your sober you can begin to heal and feel and process that that makes you depressed. Eventually you can come to a place where the sun shines longer than not. Keep at it. Don't give up. When you get to the sweet spot of sobriety it feels soooo good.

Welcome to SR

Welcome cldg! Well done on passing up the alcohol in the store! Every time I go grocery shopping it's like some kind of evil ploy by the retail stores to try to break me. It seems like every aisle I go down there is either hard liquor, wine or beer on an end cap display. I never really noticed it until I quit drinking.

I'm glad you are here for support and keep up the strong resolve! You will go through ups and downs but it's worth it to have a clear head, a good nights sleep and wake up fresh and ready to face the day!

You have come to an awesome place!

Here you will find people who will scream with you when you want to scream, yell with you when you want to yell, comfort you when you need to be comforted, and help you when those urges are hard to beat.

There's a priceless amount of information and no better way to find out that you're not alone.

Congratulations on your decision!

I haven't done the banana dance for a while, this is for you:

I think that's why I drank..I was scared. Scared of my own feelings, scared of the judgement of others, scared of feeling awkward, scared of failure, scared of success...scared of life.

Congratulations to you. I ADMIRE you for speaking your truth..your scared. That's so awesome.
