Just like you did on day 1 and day 2. Keep focusing on your goal, keep busy, drink lots of water and eat well. Keep coming here too and working through any cravings. You are doing great, and things will get better.

Every time I've tried to stop day 3 has been the worst. Can you get out and go see a movie? Go to a museum? Go to a bookstore and get a book to start? Anything to put your mind somewhere else....

That first week is tough. You just need to take it one day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time. Do whatever you have to do to make this day. Tomorrow is a new day. One day at a time is all we ever have. Hope it helps. You are in my prayers.

Day 3 was the worst for me, too.

It's the time when your mind clears enough for you to remember all the horrible things. But, you can get through it and Day 4 will be a bit easier.

It just feels good to know that others have experienced the pain I feel and have gotten through it

Stay focused on how much better your next sober days will be! Just take it slow, take care of yourself to the best of your ability; you can do this!!

I remember feeling so bad I got into the shower and ran the water over my head until it went cold. I would also focus on the next morning. "If I don't drink tonight I'll feel better in the morning".

I also remember the bad memories flooding in. That took some time and I got some help.

Hang in there. The Earth is turning and day 4 is waiting for you to arrive.

I'll echo what others have said - one day at a time. Keep busy. Go for a walk. Eat ice cream. Clean out a closet. Take a bath and go to bed early. You'll feel so much better tomorrow if you don't drink today.

Drink a lot of water. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Maybe treat yourself to something you like (other than alcohol of course). Keep your mind busy. Read, watch a favorite movie / tv show, pick up an old hobby that got lost in the haze of booze, etc.

Thanks, your response really resonated with me. The shower idea sounds like a good one, take care

Day three is definitely a difficult one. Trust me when I say it starts getting better from there. I'm into week two and it's WAY better than week one. As the others have said, just keep taking it one day at a time and know it does get better. When you wake up tomorrow sober, you will be so glad you stayed strong today!

I feel like I just want to get drunk again... Day one, I literally couldn't walk to the liquor store a block away. Plus I was brain dead and actually fearing death. Now I can walk to the liquor store and I want to so badly! I'd pray for them to open, now I pray for them to close

Jaime,

Don't walk to the liquor store. That's the last thing you want to do. Think about how you're going to feel tomorrow morning if you drink today / tonight.

Hang in there Jaime, and remind yourself that you will never have to go through another day 3 again.

I really wanted things to be different.
I knew where drinking got me - it was time I found out where not drinking me.

Thats how I got through day 3.

It was rough, but so was my drinking life by the end.

45 minutes til the liquor store closes. White knuckling it for now. I don't care for beer so I'm done on day 3 if I can make these last few minutes.

You can do it. Google pictures of damaged livers. Write about how you're feeling in a journal. Drink a giant glass of water and then brush your teeth. Hang out here for 45 minutes.
