Alcohol Cloud Lift?

Having listening to a guy talk about how after 8 months of stopping drinking, what he called "the alcohol cloud" began to lift. Thereafter, he viewed life from a completely new positive perspective.

Can any relate to this?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Hi. I can relate personally and with observation of people getting sober in AA. Lets face it, alcohol is not a health drink and does cell damage especially in the amounts many drank. It's said and I believe that our mental development slows down or stops when we drink in our early years, I've heard until 25. With that in mind we need time to start thinking and acting sober. Naturally each person is different and our recovery differs. It certainly gets better if alcohol is missing in our systems. BE WELL

Hi, daniell. It took me about 9 months before my thinking really felt clearer to me. That being said, I think everyone is different.

Perhaps I am way to new to sobriety to talk about cloud lift but as I was walking to work from the parking garage I absolutely noticed a remarkable feeling. I only go into work about once a week and I have been for the most part in a alcohol haze for the better part of 10+ years.

Yesterday - I felt a sense of clarity. Of calm. Of confidence that I have not felt in years. It was VERY noticeable. It was AWESOME.

Not sure if this is the same thing but I love it none the less.

PS - with the exception of two slips - I have been sober for 40+ days.

Hi daniell. I can relate to this. After about 8 or 9 months i found my outlook on life was much more positive. Rather than focus on the negative aspects of a situation i gravitated towards focusing on the positive. I also feel calm and an inner peace since i stopped drinking. Life is so much better for me.

I started to feel 'sharper' after about half a year. Sure feels good.

I am at 15 months and I like to call it baby steps. I couldn't even function at first without thinking about alcohol. I had to re-learn how to think. The time I drank was almost like a time where my brain was getting no mental stimulation except through alcohol. It comes back and it is a joy when it does.

I am getting close to 8 months and I definitely feel days when the skies are clear for sure, but the clouds still settle in at times. It's absolutely much better now though then at first when every day was a dense fog advisory.

yes I relate
although in the old days when I would sober up
the fog lifted in not many days
things did change
this last time sobering up
I was in a deep fog for the first few months
I was very scared thinking that
I'm going to be stuck in this fog zone forever
but
thank God

things did get better once again
now
not to return to my sin
