First AA meeting

Attended my first meeting tonight. Actually first in 20yrs (the last time I tried to quit). Could relate to some and not to others. First time admitting I am an alcoholic and surrender to this disease in front of strangers.

Got a temporary sponsor and plan in place. Funny we both had the same drink of choice - Vodka and Diet Sprite. Funny, for me I was worried about the calories and for him it was the sugar that led to Diet Sprite as the mixer. I chuckle when I think about it - calories - I was consuming 7-8K calories per week in alcohol but was worried about the mixer - haha.

Plan to attend 3 meetings per week. Another hour till day 8 - enjoy posting on the site but probably going to take some time and return on day 14 (milestone for me).

My wife gets home tomorrow night so day 10 should be interesting if she decides to quit or drink in front of me. Not focused on her though. Need to check in with the PCP this week to update - 3 VMs from them that I have been ignoring.

I'm glad you have a plan in place to keep you from drinking. Living sober really rocks!

Good luck mate. Admission is the hardest part. Getting to meetings, and working with your sponsor is the way forward.

Congrats. I feel you, I had my first meeting in more than ten years, and onl the 4th or 5th I've ever attended, today.

"Hi, I'm ---, and I'm an alcoholic".

It's so strange to hear THOSE words come out of your own mouth.

I did this too! LOL I mixed with Diet Coke to avoid the calories. Insanity!

Welcome.

The combination of AA and this website helped me, hope it can do the same for you.
