I WILL SLEEP Lol (nod and agree u lot) this really doesn't seem to be getting any better for me! I'm taking high doses of antihistamine's as their not addictive but even 100mg is just getting me an hour or two max. I've the dr again Wednesday I think it is but really don't want anything addictive but not sure where else I could go from here.
ok I'm nodding..I'm nodding...lol
I remember feeling what you do and wishing that someone could tell me exactly when I was going to finally get some proper rest. Best answer was that "It'll come to you". But it did and It'll come to you too.

I know Zoe - I'm seriously gonna have to knock the coffee on the head as well I'm counteracting one with the other! Speak to my gp again this week - she will probably give me heartburn tablets or something hahaha if she doesn't have any other solutions that are non addictive then ill get some kalms.

It's just my sleeping - my anxiety has never been so low - I have campral for cravings it's basically I need sleep! Everything else I'm dealing with. I never was a great sleeper - one of my reasons for drinking.

I don't know anything about campral babe Is one of the side-effects insomnia? Mind you, if you've always had probs sleeping then I guess it's that.
I think we should all stop reading Dee's posts, coz we're morphing into Aussies and awake aussie hours lol

Here's a thought....you really weren't a great sleeper otherwise you wouldn't be having Healing happening now...meaning that your brain is Now Learning how to sleep without it's anesthetic and sleep properly as alcohol interferes with all stages of normal sleeping....
sleep will come so let your brain heal, it effects us much more than we realize!

Sorry 13.
I'm not a great sleeper myself.
Antihistamines in high doses CAN have the opposite effect.
Some things that help me sometimes:
Turn a fan on.
Get your feet warm and your body cool.
Loop a recording of waves crashing on a beach or rain.
Read anything by Tolstoy.
Do you have racing thoughts?

Hi Emily, I have always had trouble sleeping as well.
The things that help me the most are:
Having a bedtime ritual (now I shower, now I drink sleepy tea, now I let my dog out, now I read, now I sleep...etc.) and also trying to go to bed around the same time every night.
Sleepy tea (any kind, things with valerian root and chamomile in them)
White noise (like a fan, or google simply noise, a free white noise generator) and a pitch black room
Reading before bed, instead of the television or computer
And regular exercise and/or working super hard, anything to really exhaust me fully
It took a lot of effort for me to get into that routine, but after a few weeks I started resting better than ever and found myself naturally getting sleepy and wanting to go to bed, which has never really happened for me since I was a kid. I used to lie awake at night wanting to sleep so badly that it would almost make me cry. Not drinking also definitely makes a huge difference. I hope you get some good rest soon!

I second, third or forth the suggestion about the tea with valerian root in it. Like longbeach, I am also addicted to Sleepytime tea and have two cups at night and it knocks me out.
I took Benadryl (diphenhydramine/antihistamine) by the handful when I stopped drinking but it ended up with me having to take more and more and always feeling groggy and awful the next day.
I am a believer in Melatonin but it took me finding the sustained release kind to do the trick. It's herbal but can also build up and stop working. I take it now mostly because my job has me switching time zones a lot but it does work and without that nasty, groggy side effect. My nightly go-to is Sleepytime, tho.
And what SugarBear said is so true...your brain is healing. It'll even out and after a few months you'll be sleeping like a baby.
Wishes for a restful night coming to you...
