At risk of losing our home to the Rim Fire :-(
Mandatory evacuation issued unfortunately.
It's our second home so it's nothing like our neighbors who live there permanently. They've all packed up and gone but one as they are trying to find a place for their livestock.
I feel SOOO bad for everyone and also for ourselves.
Very helpless. Cannot even go up to take what we can get out. It's in the hands of the brave firefighters now.
Not gonna lie - first instinct is to grab a bottle.
Need to stay strong - just for today. Worry about tomorrow - tomorrow.

I'm praying for you DrunkenBob. Sometimes its all that you can do. I spent a week in Yosemite in May, so incredibly beautiful. It kills me that so much is being destroyed, even though I know that this is something that occurs often in nature. Be strong.
Sending good thoughts your way, DunkenBob. Obviously, this is truly a big-time test for you!! Wishing you all my best and stay strong... There is not much you can do here. It is what it is... :-(..
Bob I am keeping you and your neighbors in my prayer and remember to stay sober no matter what. If goodness forbid you lose your home, you will need all your wits about you to deal with the situation. There is no situations that drinking cannot make worst.
Stay strong
Ps: see if you can do some kind of service, maybe they have set up an emergency shelter or a station where they hand out snacks etc. See if you can volunteer. When things are truly bad, getting out of ourselves and helping others really help us stay sober.

Hey Bob,
i'm sorry to hear about your property . You and the wife are safe that's certainly something to be thankful for , having a second place to live is also a blessing .
My way of fighting alcohol is to reach out to others in need , maybe your neighbours with the animals could do with some help ? with permission put an add out online on thier behalf .. i don't know ...
I don't know your situation or your skills but maybe there are more positive things to do and get involved with than the hoplessness you'll find at the bottom of a bottle ?
Take care , m

Thanks for all the positive comments. Funny how just reading posts from this wonderful community here can help :-)
No doubt drinking can only complicate things at this point. Must keep that in focus although it's hard.
No idea why but I feel a combination of sadness and anger. Anger is ALWAYS a trigger for me.
Volunteering might be an option if we can make it up there - which may be very difficult. We are absolutely fortunate to have another option as far as living goes - so many others do not.
Keeping faith in the firefighters and praying they find a way!

Prayers for you and your community Bob.
I drank through many crises in my life, alone, in my room.
in 2011 I dealt with huge floods in my city - it was a terrifying time and although I was ok, there was much damage elsewhere - so I did what I could to help...
that lesson always stuck with me

our loved ones are of most importance
my prayers are with you
I lost my rental home to the Ca Cedar Fire of 2002
and
a lot of damage received to my home
plus
lifetime of collected tools burnt etc etc etc
hope that you don't go through that
nothing is worth drinking over today
14 people within 12 miles of my home died in the fire
our loved ones are of most importance
feel blessed that you got notice that the fire might be coming your way
as some never do
