Sleep problem

My dr prescribed me a 10mg antihistamine that 'may' cause drowsiness..... What planet is she from? I used to drink a bottle of vodka a night to get to sleep and she hands me a hay fever prescription arrrrrrgh!!!

Needless to say she will be seeing me tomorrow. I feel like sometimes they don't want you to get better. I'd rather be on a sleeping tablet than litres of alcohol a week!

The fact is antihistamines are for allergies - while they may 'cause drowsiness' they're not actually sleeping meds.

Maybe you need another Doctor, Emily?

Unfortunately some sleep medications can be highly addictive. That's probably why the Dr. didn't prescribe one for you right now since you're a recovering A. She probably was worried about you trading one addiction for another. She was actually practicing careful medicine. Try some melatonin and see if it works. It's non addictive and natural.

Emily - try Kalms night-time from the health shop. They work wonders for me I'm going through the opposite at the moment - staying awake is a problem. Not to worry - all this beauty sleep, i'll be gorgeous (I wish) lol

I removed one post that gave advice about prescribed medications, but please remember that we can't give medical advice here guys - and by our rules that includes over the counter things too.

experience only please.

Mmmmmkay update and I'm feeling a bit more at ease and listened to. I saw a different dr who upped my anxiety meds so im on double dose he was still insistent on the flipping antihistamines lol but instead of 10mg once a day I can have 25mg three times a day so fingers crossed this will stabilise me because I really don't want to feel the need to self medicate with alcohol - and I don't think I could stand going to see another doctor this month lol that's five in a week lol feel like I live there!
