Zolof and quiting

I have been on prescription generic zolof
for 4 years with one break of 6 months. I never told my doctor that i was drinking a lot with it. Now that I have been sober for 11 days and starting to feel more relaxed, I am wondering if it working a lot better

Hey sgs,

I did exactly the same thing and yes, I'm finding that my generic Z (sertraline) is working a lot better for me now that I quit. It makes sense too. We're taking an anti-depressant then drinking alcohol, which is a depressant. So now that we're not taking in the alcohol, the anti-depressant can work better, right?

Not medical advice in any way, btw. Just what I've experienced...

Best to you, sgs,

June

I think drinking cancels out the benefits of anti-depressants.

I took mine for years and self medicated with booze and I think one cancelled out the other.

I feel that my moods are a lot more stable now I have stopped drinking.
I'm even happy!!!

But I do wonder how many drama's and crisis's I invented in my mind to give me an excuse to drink myself silly.

Wishing you the best xxxx

Yes I agree,it ink anything you put in the mix that doesn't belong there messes up the prescribed meds. Alcohol is a depressant and I know it totally affected my meds, good luck to you!!!!

Hey, SGS. I, too, have been taking generic Zoloft for about 4 years. My docs told me since I had been drinking the entire time I was on the anti-depresants, chances are they weren't working at all. I still have good days and bad, but I would venture to guess that your meds are finally getting the chance to work for you. Glad to hear you are feeling good today. Keep it up!
