Healing the liver
Hi All,
So needing something to do other than drink and work I've been obsessing on drinks and foods that help ones liver recover from all this damage. It has been a nice distraction - a distraction with benefits.
I love to hear any recommendations. I've been enjoying:
1) In a blender - garlic, ginger, lemon juice, olive oil, OJ and cayenne
2) As a shot - grape fruit juice, cayenne, turmeric
3) In a blender - spinach, mint, kiwi, distilled water
4) Snacks - walnuts, blueberries, celery sticks
So there ya go - how I managed to get most of the way though day 4!

Do you have liver damage, or is this just speculation? The last blood test I had about four years ago showed no issues at all, despite 20 years of very heavy drinking. I'm due to get results tomorrow again, just to see if anything's changed.
Just putting it out there, in the event that you're unduly worrying.

Hi TKS,
I did have a bad blood result last year - was denied key-man insurance as a result. My GP said the result indicated several elevated liver enzymes caused my drinking. I hope it clears up after 30 days of sobriety - even if it does I'll stay sober!
The main reason for getting in to this is more of a hobby to distract myself from wanting to drink. Trying different drinks, shopping for fresh ingredients, etc. It's working for me somewhat - very hard not to go to the pub or those parties over the weekend but being distracted with health is keeping my mind elsewhere, a bit - I'll take it.

My sobriety started from an AE visit, had a blood test and apart from alcohol levels they said my liver was normal too. After 15 years of heavy drinking.
I do drink a lot of water and his though and coke. Love cooking to so good food helps your health generally any way.

Shakes with blueberries and kale as a base (antioxidants)
Green tea (more anti oxidants)
Vitamin C every morning
Glass of lemon water before bed to heal my body overnight (I really love this)
Ironically, all of the above, I pretty much craved naturally (except the kale!)
Oh, and betroot and apple juice a couple of days a week in my smoothie.
