Hi everyone!
I am brand new here, and have been wanting to dive right back into sobriety. My only hesitation has been tapering off. Is it necessary? How did others taper down from alcohol? I was hoping for some encouragement this morning. Thanks to all!
Welcome!!!!
Glad to see you here. I personally did not taper, I just had enough so I stopped. I guess because I only had a couple of years drinking, I didn't need detox.
How are you going to taper - do you have a plan? I think there are people who did it - try the search feature in this room. Hopefully you can get some ideas. Do you have support at home?
I forgot to mention - please see your doctor.

Tapering may be needed but please consult a doctor. As far as I know, the only things that can kill you are quitting alcohol c/t and benzos c/t.
I AM NOT A DOCTOR, OR EVEN A NURSE, SO DO SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP!!

Hi Blue...! Welcome to SR!! Personally I just quit. I didn't have any withdrawals unlike some have said they experienced. For me tapering would be like moderating and I sucked at that. Keep coming back it does help!!

Thanks for all the responses I really appreciate them. I do have an appointment scheduled with my doc on Tuesday. I thought I'd just cut one drink out per night until I was down to 3 or so then just stop. I do not have support at home but I will be attending a lot of meetings to try to make up for that. Thanks all!
Hi
Glad you're seeing your doc. I didn't taper-didn't see the point as once I have one drink I just want another. I'd rather just quit.Don't think there are any medical benefits for tapering unless under medical supervision -it's just putting off the inevitable bad feelings. Welcome to SR
