I am new here, I joined Friday morning. There wasn't a big event which brought me here, just decided I drink too much and want to stop.
Today was a funeral for a friend from my ski club. Several of us planned to carpool up in a 15 passenger van (it is a hour north). They were picking me and a few others up at a location. When they got there the driver, another friend, was drinking. Before he started and during the drive. 3 of us were not cool with that and decided to take a separate car up.
After the funeral, we all headed back to the point of pick up for a BBQ. I had planned ahead and brought my healthy food and several waters. I also brought several beers and a bottle of wine to "donate" from my house.
I was nervous about how I would feel with the stress of the funeral and being around all my drinking friends. It was totally fine and I did not have a problem with it at all. I was prepared to leave if I felt like I needed to, but didn't. No one gave me a hard time or asked why I wasn't having a beer. I felt very much in control.
I stayed longer than I thought I would and am very pleased it turned out well.
