New to recovery
Hi. Thought i'd give this site a go.
Went cold turkey on 5 Aug & ended up in A&E after 2 seizures. I'd heard of the risks but never thought it would happen to me!!
Finishing medication detox tomorrow and desperate to stay sober (after drinking at least half bottle vodka every night for years!)
Just been to supermarket and I never noticed before there is booze at the end of loads of aisles not just in the booze aisle.
I think this is going to be my biggest obstacle. That along with bbq's, parties etc.
am going to give the alcohol support clinic at the local health centre a visit but I've tried AA before and it wasn't for me.
Any advice or suggestions gladly received.

Hi Flashfrog Yes, supermarkets do seem to like to rub our noses in it, don't they. Before long, you won't even notice
Sounds like you have plans made for off-line support too, which is great
Oh and welcome to SR!!

Welcome to SR.
Skip the bbq's, parties, and any other event or activity that is alcohol related until you are strong enough in your recovery to withstand the triggers.

Hello, and welcome.
Booze is every where. The trick is not to drink it.
What works for me is thinking of that first drink and where it'll lead me.
You've had a bad experience, now, remember how you feel. You never have to feel this way again if you don't take the first drink.
Best to you.

Hi Flash. There are a lot of supporting members on SR. I've really benefitted by joining the forum and I hope you will too. You made a huge step when you decided to stop drinking. A "tool" I've found helpful involves AVRT. If you search this forum you should find some threads about AVRT. Hope you stick around!!

This was my experience too. Until i did what they said
Dont drink

get a sponsor
work the steps.
Did you do those things.
if you didnt do those 4 you didnt go to AA
you warmed a seat in a basement somewhere

Thanks all. For all your comments. Just gonna look into AVRT & thanks to ghostlight1. Such a sensible and obvious thing to say. I will think that way nxt time I'm in the shop or wherever I see any booze!! It's there but I don't have to drink it. I don't like sprouts and I can walk past them in the shop without even seeing them!!!
