hi, everyone
i'm:
laura
30
awesome
a wash DCer
a fitness and health nut
a foodie
kind
generous
a snort laugher..among other things.
i'm not a newcomer to recovery, but i *am* a newcomer to this forum. i just celebrated 6 years on july 14. hard to believe, it really is. i've definitely had my ups and downs in sobriety, but my downs are a million times better now than they were before!
for what it's worth, i'm not active in AA. i have a "program" that works for me: seeing my amazing therapist weekly, exercising and eating right, developing better relationships with my family and true friends, doing things outside of my comfort zone, becoming a member on myfitnesspal.com (a saving grace for me), and celebrating milestones at my favorite candlelight meeting (the folks always welcome me back, no matter how long i've been away). AA helped me in my recovery, especially in the beginning. it remains a small part of why i am sober today, not the only part.
cheers (water, diet coke, insert non-alcoholic beverage of choice here) to you all!

Welcome, Laura! And congratulations on that achievement. I am also a DC'er and am very familiar with the trials and tribulations of the DC culture, particularly as it pertains to drinking, so hats off to you on getting sober and remaining so. I am only six months sober and it took me nearly eight years into my thirties to get that I had a problem so your achievement, at that age, is even more remarkable.
So great to have you here and hope to see more posts from you!
