Got through my 2nd birthday

Just got back from holiday. Celebrated my birthday. Second sober birthday! It was hard because there was a bottle of wine on the table. I got through, but I had a bit of panic attacks and doubts. Im glad I was strong enough to say no to drinks.

So its day 554 and my sober journey continues.

Congrats Healthy, that's a huge milestone. Sorry to hear about the panic attacks, but it's great that you got through it.

I was very nervous last year too. It was my 1st sober birthday. Its hard but doable. Minute by minute. Just dont pick up the drink.

Congratulations HealthyFood. That is truly an accomplishment.

I am on Day 6. I must admit, I am surprised that you had a panic attack over wine. I guess I don't understand 1) Why you would have wine around to celebrate your 2nd birthday. 2) A birthday anniversary, a HUGE accomplishment, would trigger nervousness or panic attacks... even after being sober for so long... Especially on a birthday!!

That has really made me stop and think... I am really new and practicing mindfulness right now. I would love to get to one year. Now, I am worried that if such a HUGE milestone, like a 1 year sober anniversary could trigger the AV in so many people, then how am I ever going to get through all the other occasions, in which my inner AV is screaming for attention to make it to the 1 year mark in the first place?

I just figured that the one day I would not want to drink would be on my one year anniversary. I am so surprised that so many people struggled with not drinking on this milestone...

Sorry for rambling....

I was celebrating my birthday not 2 year sober anniversary. So Im sober only 554 days. I did not buy even beer, got some water and energy drink for myself.

Im ok when I don't see alco, but when I see it I have to remind myself that I don't drink.

That's really cool to hear about your 2nd sober birthday. I remember my first sober birthday last year, and it was a milestone birthday. I turned 40! I was ready to go to dinner with my husband and all of a sudden it hit me. I had some time between getting off of work and meeting him for dinner. What do I do?? Before, I'd head to the bar! Now what? I had a mini panic moment before I remembered the nearby bookstore and spent some time there.

The cool thing about "firsts" -- when you get through them sober, you realize you can do these things and the second time around isn't nearly as panicky! I'm about ready to celebrate my 41st birthday and am not the slightest bit concerned!

Thanks HealthyFood. I have been seeing people refer to their 1 year sober anniversary as their 1 year birthday... When you wrote 2 year birthday, I assumed you were referring to your 2nd year sober anniversary...

Again, I am really new to sobriety and am still trying to understand all the lingo and acronyms! -
