Ah is coming home!

AH is going to be discharged on Monday.I have been able to discuss things with OT and doctor and they feel he isn't ready to live independently so we will have a care package of carers twice a day and OT visits twice a week.He is threatening to discharge himself but I think he will stay until Monday. The consultant didn't hold back and has told him that the drinking caused his brain to shrink and that he had small bleeds before probably linked to previous falls and that neurosurgeons didn't usually drill 2 holes in someone's head unless it was very serious! I think AH is seriously frightened. I don't know how much he will improve - he apparently got thought he was in the specialist unit, not the infirmary yesterday morning, and tried to put his trousers on over his pyjamas and got confused when they took him for a walk.
So I guess I am now moving into a carers role. I am not sure I can cope but hope somehow I can find the strength and support. I will get a social worker so hopefully I can get some help. If he keeps drinking, and falls again, it could reoccur and be fatal. The advice is to stop drinking. He has said that he will try this so I have to do my best to support him.
Thanks for reading. Trying to balance MY needs against taking care of him isn't going to be easy - not sure how much he will improve long term - hopefully substantially.
On a lighter note, I did get to the cat show and my darling baby who I hand reared got his title and 2 best of breeds in both shows. He had a red card day and won every class he was entered in - I left early because it was very hot and the little monster started to pant and I didn't want him stressed. He got out of his carrier normal as everything when we got home! I think he likes to play his human slave up!!!!!! Seriously it was very hot for the cats so I don't regret losing out on the judging for best in show.

Glad you took the time to do something for you that you enjoy. Remember that is still important to do as often as you can.

I have some experience helping to care for someone, but not like the position you are in so I don't have advice other than what I said above about remembering to look after you own self as well. Care giving is a big deal. Caregivers often neglect themselves.

I'm wishing you much strength and peace.
