i would like some opinions about avtr
hi everybody hoping all having a good day in sobriety/no drugs.
I read about avrt last night and in my way of seeing what they say is that
AA , and all others treatment are not good that they are the only solution.
any body has a different perspective...
today I'm sober moving to a new place tomorrow, tonight a meeting to my home group life is coming back to me to bad the price was to lose my wife.
Each recovery method has a different theory or steps, but whats most important is finding one that works for you. The Secular connections forum here has a lot of info and people who share about AVRT, as well as many others.
I'm not sure what you read, but people get sober by many different means. AVRT appeals to some. But it takes a certain amount of self inititive that some folks don't have or struggle with. I think AA works for people who benefit from being guided by a time-tested process.
If you read Rational Recovery AVRT certainly comes across that way. I never liked that about it though I do credit AVRT with keeping me sober (along with SR of course ). I took issue with that but was informed that the method was designed for people who had been in and out of AA for years and couldn't stay sober, so therefore a certain amount of deprogramming is necessary. I never went to AA before reading RR so felt like that part of the book was just needless AA bashing. I think it would be helpful to have an AVRT publication aimed at people who are new to recovery. I find the fact that it only really exists in opposition to something else as pretty sad. I have managed to make it work for me though, even with attending a few AA meetings too. I take a more ecumenical approach to recovery
